If you like being on the forefront of product development and improvement, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join the Earthmoving Cab Systems and Environment division as a Senior HVAC System Design Engineer!  Caterpillar enjoys the strongest reputation in the industry, and, in this critical role, you will help continue this tradition by leveraging your unique skillset in HVAC design, development and validation to configure operator HVAC systems that enhance both the user experience and productivity of Caterpillar machines.

This role will be responsible for design and development of HVAC related components and systems, collaborating closely with the machine integration and validation teams to optimize integration. Will participate in requirements gathering, functional specification creation, DFMEA & PFMEA exercises, validation planning, and troubleshooting. Role will provide technical leadership for HVAC systems, working with customers and process partners, such as machine business divisions, cab system teams, global purchasing, etc.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
• Ensuring HVAC components and systems are developed and built to the highest standard of performance excellence and quality for construction and mining machines.
• Addressing design inquiries and quality concerns originating from sources such as end users, dealers and manufacturing facilities using Build in Quality (BIQ) and continuous product improvement processes
• Collaborating with the machine integration and validation teams to ensure the components and system are optimized for performance, quality, cost, and overall user experience.
• Participating in the requirements gathering, functional specification creation, DFMEA & PFMEA exercises, and validation planning.
• Employing the available industry tools for analyzing HVAC systems, have knowledge of complete system CFD analysis as needed, and help develop a strategy for completing CFD analysis.
• Collaborating with our supply base and other HVAC experts within Caterpillar and the industry to leverage the latest in technology, processes, and best practices.
• Strong customer focus, teamwork, global collaboration, and communication capabilities
• Applying new technologies and products, as well as new manufacturing and assembly processes.
• Leading multiple projects simultaneously, meeting all quality, cost, and timing deliverables.

Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited Mechanical Engineering or related technical curriculum,
• 6 or more years of relevant industry experience
• 3 or more years of experience designing, testing, or manufacturing HVAC components and systems, refrigeration systems, or other similar thermodynamic systems
• High level of proficiency in CREO or other 3D modeling tools
• Experiences working with suppliers and end customers

Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s degree from an accredited Mechanical Engineering or related technical curriculum
• Fundamental understanding of air filtration/cabin air quality
• Manufacturing engineering experience in automotive or construction equipment
• Experiences in working w/ suppliers and end customers
