The heater control valves
The heater control valve (sometimes called the hot water valve) is used to control the rate at which coolant flows through the heater core. The valve is located on the heater inlet hose. Manually operated systems may use a cable, a vacuum motor or an electric solenoid to operate the valve.
The cable-controlled valve connects the valve to the dash board heat selector via a push-pull cable. A vacuum controlled valve uses engine vacuum to move the valve in response to the operator’s selection. Electrically operated valves rely on wiring and a solenoid to operate the valve.
For automatic temperature control systems, the control valve is controlled by the computer and may be operated by either vacuum or electricity. Once a temperature is selected, the computer will control the valve to keep the temperature constant in the vehicle.
When having your mobile A/C system professionally serviced, insist on proper repair procedures and quality replacement parts. Insist on recovery and recycling so that refrigerant can be reused and not released into the atmosphere.
