There’s nothing cheaper or more benign than soap bubbles for finding a leak. As a technician with a 1999 Pontiac Bonneville complained, he tried trace dye and two different electronic leak detectors with no luck, despite the fact that the system was gushing between a half-pound and a pound overnight. But when he swabbed the compressor nose with soap solution, presto, it bubbled. His conclusion: back to basics does it.

The Mobile Air Conditioning Society (MACS) Worldwide has been honored with two Automotive Communications Awards for its technical newsletter MACS Service Report. The September 2009 issue of the MACS Service Report covering A/C performance in hybrid vehicles was the winner in the business-to-business technical magazine article category and was chosen best in show for the business-to-business communication category. The awards were presented during the Car Care Council Women’s Board reception, which took place Tues., Nov. 2, at the Sands Expo Center during the Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX).
